REMEMBER,

REINVENT

Resources To Explore

We offer this website as a place where today’s education activists can examine and learn from the efforts of an earlier generation committed to social justice and democratic schooling ideals.

Much of what we did at The Group School connects directly to the reinvention efforts of today: helping young people find strength in their social, cultural and racial identities, supporting them to express themselves and envision different futures, encouraging youth activism based on the profound understanding that things do not have to be the way they are.

We drew ideas and inspiration from previous generations of transformational education — devouring books like Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paolo Freire, and Letter to a Teacher by the Schoolboys of Barbiana. We tried both to learn from those who had come before and give ourselves permission to invent anew.

We hope users of this website will do the same.
